Losing the baby teeth is a natural process. It’s going to happen no matter how much your child doesn’t want it to. However, this doesn’t make it any easier, right? Well, fortunately, there are things you can do as a parent to make this process a little more fun and a little less scary. Our dentist, Dr. Ed Perdue, is happy to share his ideas with you!
First, tell your child about the Tooth Fairy. She always makes things more fun. Tell your child that when they lose their teeth, the Tooth Fairy pays them a visit, takes the tooth, and leaves them a little treasure in exchange for the tooth. All they need to do is place the tooth in a sandwich bag and then lie it under their pillow before they go to sleep at night. The Tooth Fairy will visit them when they’re sound asleep so she’s not spotted!
Second, encourage your child to decorate a door sign for the Tooth Fairy. When they place this sign on the doorknob, the Tooth Fairy will know there is a little chomper ready to be taken. You can access a door sign on the American Dental Association’s website. Once you print it, have your child color it any way they would like!
Third, have the Tooth Fairy leave a tooth receipt when she visits. This receipt can also be accessed on the ADA website. It’s a fun receipt that asks for the child’s name, the child’s age, the date of collection, the number of teeth collected, and the payment provided. There’s also a section for the Tooth Fairy to leave a little note at the bottom!
